The Young Carers ID card helps youngcarers access the support and permissions they need.

Young Carers living in Carmarthenshire can apply for an ID card that they can use to prove that they are a young carer.  This could be useful in school/college, at GP appointments, in pharmacies and so on.  We are working on trying to get additional benefits to having the card, such as discounts in some places.

Young Carers Service

Young Carers are children or young people aged under 18 who look after someone in their family who has an illness, a disability, poor mental health or issues with substance misuse. They may be taking on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities that an adult would normally do. Young carers aged between 16 and 25 are often called young adult carers.

Carmarthenshire Crossroads Young Carers – CCYC -We provide practical and emotional support, respite activities, and peer group clubs/meetings to help young carers connect with others. Our team meets with young and young adult carers at school, college, at home, or in the community for 1:2:1 support. We also partner with local organizations to ensure these young people receive all the support they need.

'No choice but to care' report launches

Millions of unpaid carers across the UK provide support to a family member, friend or neighbour due to a disability, illness or frailty due to old age. Yet a majority of unpaid carers have no choice but to take on a caring role. While providing unpaid care can be rewarding, it also comes with significant negative impacts on carers’ lives.
